Welcome to the Office of the Superintendent

  • Hello Forestville Community,

My name is John O’Connor and I am the Superintendent here at Forestville.  I began on Wednesday, August 4th.  Many of you may remember me as I was previously in Forestville as the Elementary Principal from 2001-2004 and Superintendent from 2004-2012.  I am very excited to return to Forestville and to reconnect with the school community.

As I restart at Forestville, here a few things we are working on:

    • Capital Project.  The voters approved a $8,750, 000 capital project in May to address the needs of the district. I will be actively involved in this process as I have extensive experience working with capital projects.  I was here at Forestville when we completed the project for the auditorium, band room, bus garage, etc.  I was also involved with approximately $35 million of capital projects in my previous position as Assistant Superintendent for Management Services at Erie 2 BOCES.

    • Elementary School Principal.  We have begun the process of finding an elementary principal.  Screening interviews will take place the week of August 22nd and second round interviews will be conducted soon.  To assist in the search, subgroups including faculty, staff and parents will have input in the process.  We will keep you posted on this.

    • To reconnect with the school community. I have been meeting with as many individuals as I can to help reacquaint myself with the district.  Although there are many individuals still here from when I left in 2012, there are many new people to meet.  Also, a lot has changed in 10 years, and I look forward to hearing from everyone’s perspective.

The last couple of years have been difficult as COVID forced us to do schooling remotely and limit extra-curricular activities.  Last year we were able to return to a semblance of normalcy and hopefully, we can continue down that path to make sure our students have opportunities to learn and to grow in an in-person environment.   I look forward to meeting with as many of you as I can over the next few months.  If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to me at joconnor@forestville.com

Welcome to the Forestville Central School District.  Our District is comprised of families from the village of Forestville and parts of the towns of Hanover, Sheridan, Villenova, Arkwright and Perrysburg.  Our district encompasses approximately 112.3 square miles.  The School District’s current enrollment is approximately 500 students.  Please feel free to browse our website for more information about our District.  In addition, our administrative team takes pride in assisting individuals with their needs and questions.  Do not hesitate to contact them directly if you have any concerns or are in need of clarification.  Our staff members take a great deal of pride in their responsibility to provide educational opportunities for our students.

Our District’s Mission Statement is dedicated to educating students to meet or exceed the NYS learning standards, develop their critical thinking skills, and achieve their fullest academic potential. The Board of Education, parents, community members, staff, and faculty are expected to work together to support these educational goals while preparing our students to become independent and responsible members of society. There is a need for accountability at all levels of the organization to improve student achievement and school effectiveness.

The Forestville Central School District is a wonderful place to raise a family. The community is rich in history and culture.  There is a great deal of pride and tradition coupled with a strong desire to learn and grow.  I am honored to serve our children, family and community in the capacity of Superintendent of Schools. I will also serve as the Foster Care point of contact for our district.
